Amanda Palmer: The Art of Asking

I really, really loved this TED Talk.  I thought Amanda Palmer did an amazing job.  I love how she makes her relationship with her fans so personal.  She loves her fans just as much as they love her and her music.  I really like that she tweets to them and she stays with them, it shows how much she appreciates them.  I like that she tries to connect with her fans and that she trusts them.    “My music career has been spent trying to encounter people on the internet as I would on the box.”  I really like that she said this because it shows that she is trying to have such a personal connection with her fans.  Her presentational style was casual and laid back, as if she were standing on the box talking to people on the street and I really liked that.
I also liked that she reshaped the “business” of music and turned it into an art form.  She wants her music to be free and she just needs a little help in return.  I like that she isn’t afraid to ask her fans for help, it shows that she is comfortable with herself.  There are many people in the world, sometimes myself included, that are afraid to ask for help.  I know for me personally when I’m afraid to ask for help it’s because I don’t want to be dependent on someone, I want to make it on my own.  But everyone needs help, whether they are willing to admit that or not.  And Amanda Palmer is willing to admit that she needs help.  She asks her fans for help so she can make it, so she can continue doing what she loves and giving her fans free music.
