The Amanda Palmer- TED talk

I think she does a cool thing of having her music free and not making people pay. Instead of making people pay and just asking them to help, she makes it more accessible. Instead of it being about just the music and making money she makes it more about the connections with her and the fans, but just people even when she is not performing. Its a different way of doing things but I actually like it better. She even asks fans when she is traveling with a place to sleep, and no other artist I know does that.

In her TED talks she talks about her job as a street performer, and a reason she liked it so much was because she got to make a personal connection with the people she met everyday. That is what she wanted to continue with her music. Instead of the artist being untouchable in a sense she wanted to make the same connection with people as she did while street performing. While she  still met with fans backstage at concerts and stuff, she made her music free, and decided just to ask her fans for help, that way to her things became more personal. She got a twitter and got to stay more connected to her fans and even post things like the hangover they had. She redefines the relationship with the artist and the fans by connecting them together.

Her presentation style does reflect the relationship she wants to have. As a street artist she isn't afraid to have people come up to her, or look her in the eyes, she actually wants it,she wants a personal connection and this comes across in her TED talks as well.At the end when she threw a flower out into the audience, she was making that connection with the people at TED as well.

I think even  though her TED talk was called the art of asking, I thinking it was really about the work she does and how she makes her connections with others. Its unusual for an artist to give her music away for free, and just ask for people to help her instead. She wants that connection with people and that makes a unique artist.
