Profession/ Career

A vocation requiring knowledge of some department of learning or science is the denotation of the word profession. A similar word and a synonym of “profession” is “career”, which is an occupation or profession, especially one requiring special training. Those these words are often interchangeable and denote the same meaning there connotations are very different.
A profession is often seen as a job or an occupation of a person. This often demonstrates a person’s knowledge and level of education. This also is used as a symbol of wealth. A profession can be in a wide range of wide range of fields and can change if the worker chooses so. A profession also does not demonstrate success or failure, only that the worker holds the position.
A career is completely different. A career is a journey in a certain profession. A career can be built or destroyed, and can be a success or failure. A career also shows someone’s commitment and life skills not only knowledge. A career is also often carried out in one field of work or fields of work that are closely related.
Though these words seem to mean the same thing by definition, their connotations are much different. In many ways a career is also much more respected than a profession because of the commitment and work that it takes to build a career. So when using these words make sure to use the right one for what you are trying to convey.

  1. I liked how you said a career is a journey, which includes success and failure. A profession is just a job and a position someone holds while a career is a commitment. It when a person has a passion for what they are doing it turns into a career. You did a great job saying this, making a define line between a profession and a career.
